Getting here: Travel info and maps for Glacier National Park
Glacier Country is rather remote, so options to get here are limited. Most visitors fly in, but if you are located in the western U.S. or are planning a road trip out west, driving is a very scenic way to get there. Amtrak also has a passenger train that runs right through Glacier Country!
Fly to Glacier International Airport in Kalispell, Montana
Glacier International Airport in Kalispell, Montana (airport code FCA) is the closest airport. Alaska, Allegiant, Delta and United Airlines fly into here. The Duck Lake Vacation Rental cabin is located about 20 minutes from this airport. The next closest airport is in Missoula, Montana (airport code MSO), which is about 2.5 hours away. Along with the same airlines that fly into Kalispell, Frontier Airlines also services Missoula.
Whichever destination you choose to fly into, you will need to rent a car. There are several national and international car rental companies to choose from that operate out of both airports.
Driving to Glacier National Park
There aren’t many big cities close to Glacier Country. Here’s some drive time information if you are planning on a road trip through the Western U.S.
If you are coming from Seattle, plan on about 9 hours drive time via I-90. From Portland, Oregon, plan on over 10 hours drive time via I-84 and I-90. From Salt Lake City, plan on about 9.75 hours via I-15 and I-90. From West Yellowstone, Montana, plan on about 6.5 drive time. Be sure to check your routes and drive times using Google Maps while planning your trip and before making any reservations. Nothing is as close as you might think!
Take an Amtrak Train to either West Glacier, Montana or Whitefish, Montana
Amtrak’s “Empire Builder” train runs from Chicago to Seattle and has stops in both West Glacier, Montana and Whitefish, Montana. Check out the Amtrak website for information and schedules:
Hertz Rent A Car has offices in both locations, and Budget Rental Cars has an office in Whitefish. Once you’ve made your train reservations, be sure to reserve a car!
